FLOWERS :MOTHERLINE
As my main focus of work is Landscape Distortion I wanted to visit a gallery that relates to the boy of work I was looking at and as there were no Landscape distortion exhibitions specifically open, I decided to visit a Landscape gallery. The gallery explored a group of ceramics, tapestry and printmaking but i decided to focus on the landscapes. Motherline explores ' the emergent expression of identity, memory, visibility and the unconscious, fantasy, myth and the uncanny' produced by females giving their female experience.
Out of all the pictures, these three really stood out based on the amount of relation it had to landscape distortion. The first two really inspired me as it is a manual distortion which I am currently studying where the photographer has taken three photographs and combined them together but also burning specific areas in them so you can see through them which is a technique I have not used before. It is really effective having one setting but distorting it to looks like different settings, additionally adding the burning of the paper gives it an old fashioned look to it. Although the third image was not manually distorted, it really attracted my eye as it was naturally distorted as a result of decay and fungi. The use of this has allowed the white building to come alive with multiple colours such as purple, blue, brown and black which create an effect as though the building has been digitally distorted through the use editing. This is very inspiring as it has presented a new theme of distortion being natural distortion which has adding to the three themes I already have ( Digital/Manual/Perspective) and due to the fact it is natural will allow me to easily present my own findings of this when heading out into the city.
