This slideshow shows the steps used to create my first attempt. Firstly I used photoshop and layered my two videos taken of the subject onto each other. I then inverted the colours of the basketball video by using a gradient map filter and selected invert so the colours are opposite to the original video of the subject in his normal clothes. After this I moved the basketball video to just after the subject puts down the headphones on his neck. To create a full effect, as the subject comes out of the original video, I changed the opacity of him seeing less of him and more through him to show how he's like a ghost figure coming out of him and leaving the portrait while the first video is still going.
FORCE
Force - First Response
In this task we were required to give our first representations on how we see force through our perspective. Our task was to capture different photo's around different places to show our views of what force is.
WWW: I created a set of images representing my view of what force is.
EBI: I gave evermore examples so I can give a clear thought of what force is to me.

Force of nature
In this task we were required to show the relentless battle between man and the natural environment that we inhabit which creates and holds endless visual possibilities as the photographer. The buildings and structures that man builds as symbols of prosperity and status are at their basic level simply a means of protection from the harsh environment that surrounds him.
WWW : I managed to create an understanding of how their are many visual possibilities of force through nature.
EBI : I created photo's with better techniques to create even better pictures.
EBI : I created photo's with better techniques to create even better pictures.
Here are some examples of different artists who present their own visual representation of force :
Gordon Magnin
Los Angeles based artist, Gordon Magnin, produces work that is a perfect combination of his education, talents, environment. Gordon finds himself in a city that is visually influenced by celebrity and hollywood advertising. He creates a continuing series of imposed abstractions through the mediums of collage and photography.
John Stezaker
British artist John Stezaker is fascinated by the lure of images. Taking classic movie stills, vintage postcards and book illustrations, Stezaker makes collages to give old images a new meaning by putting two different images together. The artist reveals the subversive force of images, reflecting on how visual language can create new meaning.
Antony Gormley
Antony Gormley is a British sculptor. Gormley describes his work as "an attempt to materialise the place at the other side of appearance where we all live". Many of his works are created based on the moulds taken from his own body. His work attempts to treat the body not as an object but a place and in making works that enclose the space of a particular body to identify a condition common to all human beings. He was interested in the issue because it was an issue that was close to their heart.
Francoise Delfosse
In this task we were required to create an effective way of picturing the inside of a glacier cave by taking detail photos from inside of a plastic bag. By focusing on form, texture, lighting and colour he has managed to reinvent an object and photograph it in a way that completely throws the viewer off, without actually changing the form of the plastic bag. The lighting casts shadows that give form to the front facing walls of the plastic bag. They start to look like steep cliff faces, which then give a sense of scale to the image.
Some Francois Delfosse examples :
First Response -
WWW: I've managed to create many attempts of Francois' Delfosses work.
EBI: Made the plastic bags look evermore like a glacier cave.
EBI: Made the plastic bags look evermore like a glacier cave.
Nadav Kander
Kander intended to present a series of unanswered questions in his series, Half life. He did this by taking photos of an uninhabitable power station which had the nuclear explosion in chernobyl in 1986. He wanted us to respond in our own way and tell our own stories. The apartments, schools and hospitals that were hastily left shows the panicked evacuation of the city. He wanted to explore remainders of a past life and used a large format camera in creating this work.
Applied Force
In this task we were required to use the burst mode on our cameras to capture the burning of a water balloon. To do this I selected the shutter speed mode and set it to about 1/400 to make sure I was able to capture the bursting of the balloon without an over or under exposed aperture. The effect of the water bursting shows a clear example of how applied force is shown. To create a better effect, I could only photograph just the balloon popping and not the actual subject popping the photo. As shown in my final attempts.
WWW: I managed to create many examples of applied force upon a water balloon.
EBI: Capture the water balloon popping at an even closer angle.
EBI: Capture the water balloon popping at an even closer angle.
Force Of Movement
In this task I was required to create a set of images to create a type of force. My intentions were to create a force of movement where the subject of the photo is running. I captured this by using a GIF and a layered image of the subject. GIF images are compressed using the lossless data compression technique to reduce the file size without degrading the visual quality.
WWW: I managed to create a gif and a layered image.
EBI: If the layered image let in more exposure to create more of an effect.

Force Strands
Strand 1 - Force of Movement
In this strand I used the idea of force and put it into movement. In the image I created a layered image expressing the force in gymnastics by using the burst mode on my camera, taking many images and putting them all into one photo using photoshop. The subject I chose to photograph suited the theme as the force of the cartwheel shows the force of a movement in gymnastics. Next time I should use a less packed background so it is easier to edit making every cut out look well cut out. I was inspired by Muy Bridge to use this technique.
Well done, this is a really good layered image!
WWW: Created a good layered image showing the force of movement. By using photoshop i cut out the main subject of each image and layered them all in to one creating the effect. I used a smaller shutter speed so more light was let in.
EBI: When editing each photo, if i was to more carefully cut out the subject on each image so create a better effect.

Strand 2 - Chemical Force
In this strand I used the idea of force and put it into chemicals. In this image I created a gif expressing the chemical force as it enters the water. I created this by using the burst mode taking a quick snap of a large amount of photos. I gathered these photo's and created a GIF using photoshop. The subject of the photo suited the theme as the fairy liquid used to go into the cup of water made a scene of chemical force. To create further effect, I should've changed my exposure changing my shutter speed to a quicker pace to make sure more light is able to come in. I also should used a white background as the trees in the back ruin the whole focus on the cup. Using a tripod would've made the camera shake less so each photo doesn't look like I moved lace for each photo taken. I was inspired by Dan Toben Smith to use this technique.
WWW: Created a good set of images making a gif using the right aperture so the focus point of the image was only on the chemical force leaving the background blurry.
EBI: If the background of the image was a white background so there are no other distractions keeping only the main subject in the image focused.
EBI: If the background of the image was a white background so there are no other distractions keeping only the main subject in the image focused.
Strand 3 - Force of Heat
In this strand I used the idea of force and put it into heat. In this image I created a gif expressing how the force of heat managed to melt the ice cream over a space of time. I took a set of images over a period of time as it melted and emerged it into a gif. I used the same ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings throughout each photo making sure that each photo looked right one after the other. The subject of the photo fit the idea as it shows how the force of heat breaks down the ice cream. To create a further impact of making a good GIF I need to make sure I use a tripod to avoid camera shake.
WWW: Created a set of images implying the force of heat by using an ice cream using a small aperture to focus specifically on the ice cream. I used a white background to keep the main subject in focus causing no other distractions in the picture.
EBI: If i was to use a tripod to keep the ice cream all in the same place in each image of the gif.

Chosen Strand
Force of movement -
My favorite idea was the force of movement specifically in sport. As force of movement was my first strand, to develop the idea of it I decided to capture the use of force in different sports. In this strand I've chosen four different sports expressing the use of force in that specific sport. I have created these by layering a set of images or creating a GIF.
I was inspired by the force of movement through sport by Bob Martin who was appointed as the main photography for many important events such as in the last 30 years he's been photographing every major sporting event from the last fifteen Summer and Winter Olympics, to Elephant Polo and Horse Racing on ice. His work has taken him to the farthest corners of the world, and his photographs have been published in numerous publications including Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, Life Magazine, Stern, Paris match, Bunte, L Equipe, The Sunday Times and the New York Times to mention just a few.

GYMNASTICS:
In this GIF, my intentions were to create a force of movement through the sport of gymnastics. I did this by making the subjects do something specific to the sport chosen. In this set of images, the subjects are showing the force of movement by doing a cartwheel. I managed the aperture by making it an aperture of F/4.0. I chose a smaller aperture to make sure the amount of light exposed did not make the subjects or the background blurry, whereas it made the subjects become the main focus. I managed the ISO using an ISO 100 making the images much finer and crispy. Doing this made the image better as the details are shown further. I managed the shutter speed using a shutter speed of 1/320 allowing the amount of light let in not effect the image making the image too pale with no vibrance in it. To improve the images I need to make sure the subjects I chose to photograph are suited for the theme chosen. Next time i need to make sure the clothing worn corresponds with the sport chosen by me.

RUNNING:
In this GIF, my intentions were to create a force of movement through the sport of running. I did this by using a track and field and used the subjects of the images to run through each shot making sure that what the subject was trying to achieve was relevant to the sport chosen. I managed the aperture using an aperture of F/4.0 making sure the amount of light coming in did not leave out the main details of the image like the actual track so it was clear to see where the subjects were running. I managed the ISO using ISO 100, having the ISO low meant that as it wasn't dark outside, the images came out finer. I managed the shutter speed by using a shutter speed of 1/320 so the image didn't come out pale. I then went into photoshop and edited the image to change the brightness and contrast to get a further effect. To create a further improvement, I should next time make sure the subjects of the image are suited to the theme I've chosen.

FOOTBALL :
In this GIF, my intentions were to create a force of movement through the sport of football. I presented my first response using a GIF. I did this by making the subject do something specific to the sport taking place. The subject in this GIF is using the force of movement in football by doing kick-ups. I managed the aperture using an aperture of F/5.0, which allowed the camera to let in more light so the whole subject of the picture is clear and visible. I managed the ISO using ISO 320 so the camera was less sensitive to light creating a finer grain of image. I managed the shutter speed by using a shutter speed of 1/60 so the picture didn't let a lot of light meaning the picture didn't come out looking overly pale. The subject I chose to photograph also suited the theme as what he was wearing was based around football. As I did not use a tripod, the effect was not as good as it could of been.

First Response:
Developed Response:
In this GIF, my intentions were to create an improved version of force of movement through sport developing my first idea of it. I developed my idea by bringing the subject of the image into a suitable background relating to the sport taking place. The subject of this GIF is using the force of movement by using a fancy technique to kick the ball and hit the crossbar. I managed the aperture well by using an aperture of F/4.0 allowing more light so not only is the subject clear and visible but the background of the dark trees is clear to see as well as not letting the sky be blurry. I managed the ISO well by using ISO 100 so the camera was less sensitive to light creating an evermore finer image. I managed the shutter speed well by using a shutter speed of 1/320 letting in less light making the picture less pale than my first response. Compared to my first response, I used a tripod to make sure the image wasn't shaky at all. The subject I chose suited the image as he wore his football training tracksuits. Next time to create even further accuracy of the sport, I could make the subject wear a whole football kit, also he could do something evermore creative to do with football.
BASKETBALL:
In this GIF, my intentions were to create a force of movement through the sport of basketball. The force of the player putting the ball into the hoop creates an effect of how scoring a basketball layup is produced. I managed the aperture using an aperture of F/10. I used a lower aperture compared to my other GIF'S for this specific GIF as the amount of light that was already there because of the sun was high. I managed my ISO using an ISO 100 as it was not dark outside, the ISO had to be lower, also creating a finer image. I managed the shutter speed using a shutter speed of 1/250 to make sure that the amount of light let in did not make the image too white, pale and blurry. and shutter speed 1/250settings well so my image captured every scene without being blurry, showing a clear well exposed image. The subject of the image is suited for theme as he is wearing basketball shorts. Next time I should use a tripod to avoid the shake of the camera to get an even greater GIF.

During the force project I managed my time well creating enough images edited to suit my category of force. I took time to analyse photographers who inspired me to create a force of movement. My analysis covers my intentions, context and technique and are kept at a constant throughout the project. I found relevant subjects to photograph for each sport making sure the subject in each photograph was intermediate in the sport I chose to make sure the photograph doesn't look rookie. My skills overall have improved in certain aspects more greater than others for example, my skills in creating GIFS have improved majorly as I have now learnt how to and will always now know how to create one quickly. In other aspects their needs more improvement for example, choosing the background specifically for the photograph and using a tripod to make sure the GIF doesn't shake a lot.
FINAL PIECE
In my final piece I managed to portray my idea of having two subjects, one inverted coming out of the other one. I attempted to portray the work of Jean yves lemoigne by having the subject in his normal clothes. Then having what he's known for coming out of him, in this case it's his basketball abilities. I wanted to invert the colours of the subject playing basketball to create an effect of a surreal photograph that elevates the everyday into the extraordinary and to also put a magical feel to it. It's colourful and dynamic catching the eye and captures the imagination. I think the concept of my idea was shown with the inverted colours and having two of the same subjects portraying different things.Next time to further perfect this piece I need to make sure the subject of the basketball video is behind a black background instead of white background so when we invert the colours in that video, the colour of the background won't change. I also need to create a loop so the video is smooth by reversing the video as soon as it ends so theres no cut off at the end of the video creating a smooth piece.
INSPIRATION: JEAN YVES LEMOIGNE
French photographer, Jean Yves Lemoigne works with some of the best advertising agencies in the world and is known for having a creative eye and vision. In this series for Nike two photos of the same model wearing formal clothing and sportswear are layered on top of each other, creating an X-ray-like appearance where the images meet.
